Rockwall At The Pier serving up continuous beach views

When deciding on somewhere to go for a relaxing, casual coffee, beer or wine, you cannot look past Rockwall at the Pier. Just a few metres across from our scenic Portarlington beach and harbour, you are always guaranteed plenty of harmonious and contrasting scenic views of sky, water, nature and coastal activity.

Although quite regular visitors with friends and family, on this particular day Miss Niece 9 requested a milkshake. Three milkshakes were ordered, as we relaxed on the super comfortable couches inside, admiring all the decor, wall art and framed photos. The background music was very enjoyable, as was the warm, relaxing ambience
Our milkshakes arrived, served by a friendly, smiling waiter, and little niece was full of smiles. What was her verdict? ... "Yum, this milkshake is delicious!" as she happily sipped away, looking a lot smaller than her usual petite self, sunken in the comforts of the large couch, gazing blissfully out the windows as she continued to drink her delicious milkshake.  It's the little things that bless us each day! Appreciate everything, regret nothing.

Although I have not dined here as yet, it's definitely on my list. The menu looks inviting so I plan to have lunch or dinner here one day soon. I will let you all know about my experience, so until then have a wonderful week, and please keep checking back for more on "Life On The Bellarine"

Rockwall at the Pier is fully licensed, and open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

** Please Note:
Rockwall At The Pier has since closed and a new development is coming soon at that location.

Beach Terrace Cafe

Visiting Ocean Grove, we were looking for a brunch spot to have a bite to eat with the family. With a plethora of choices, we opted to try out Beach Terrace Cafe.

Upon entering, we were greeted by jovial friendly staff, and were made to feel very welcome. There was a comforting warm ambience about this cafe, with a genuine feel-good vibe.
The decor has a quirky nautical reference, and there are a few booths for that added privacy if you would like to read, or do some online navigating making the most of the cafe's free wi-fi.

The menu itself is impressive with it's usual inclusion of cafe style selections such as:
-All Day Breakfast
-Pancakes
-chicken parma
and more

The menu also boasts incredible in house Asian influenced dishes such as:
-Korean Chicken Salad
-Chicken, vegetable and rice noodle Spring Rolls
-plus daily featured specials.

We started off with coffees both hot and cold, all perfectly made!
Our meals arrived, looking quite impressive and tasting super delicious. I always look out for freshness with no wilting or discolouration in salads and food, and these meals looked perfect.

The Spring rolls were surprising in size, light and crisp, not oily nor overcooked, served with a lovely salad and spicy peanut sauce.

You could see the freshness of the ingredients with the Caesar Salad, highlighting Cajun style chicken breast slices and a lovely in house made anchovy mayonnaise dressing. I'm not a fan of anchovies, but this dressing was not pungent or strong in flavour, and very delicious!

Overall: Lots of smiles, lovely background music playing from the CD player, Best coffee, friendly ambience, delicious fresh food, great menu selection.

Do I recommend Beach Terrace Cafe? YES!
Will we visit again? Absolutely!

The Blues Train - a memorable experience

Approaching the Quenscliff Station, I could not wait to get started on what I had anticipated to be a most memorable evening with outstanding Blues entertainment backed by incredible views to be seen whilst on the heritage train ride along the Historic Bellarine Railway.

Tonight was the night to experience for myself along with my family first hand, the music, dancing, dining, scenery, and ambience.

Upon arrival, we purchased our drinks at the mobile bar which was set up, and then waited for the dinner announcement. A lovely buffet was set up, with hot red and white meat, assorted salads, and plenty of sauces, relishes and sides, and served by smiling, friendly catering staff.  Once meals were finished, they were even on the platform waving as the train departed. I really thought this was a pleasant touch!

So lets go into the Journey itself...
It includes four musical performances of 30 minutes each, with an interval and rest stop between each. You change carriages (4 carriages in total), at each interval so that all the patrons get to see all four acts. It's also a great peace of mind and big plus knowing that security is available throughout the evening to assist with boarding and ensure safety.

Here we go...

As the train rattled out of Queenscliff, past Swan Bay, we were blessed with scenic views, an abundance of birds on the waters, and a majestic sunset glow over the Bay, flowing in through the windows, into the carriage. A perfect backdrop as we were entertained by The Sammy Owens Blues Band who had everyone in a fantastic mood, dancing in their seats and many on the dance floor. A happy, friendly vibe was evident, and after the 30 minutes, you could see that everyone wanted more!

In our Second Carriage, the sun had set, although there was a slight evening hue. Entertained by Anna Scionti with Nathan Power on drums, you would never guess that this was their first time ever playing together. Anna's fabulous and raw blues voice, and Nathan wonderfully jovial on the drums, were a great team! Everyone was in the ambience of their fabulous performance, bopping in their seats - even the train staff and security were enjoying the mood and bopping at the back. Especially memorable, was Anna's Cigar Box Guitar, which sounded absolutely incredible!! Everyone was in awe.

After a small half-way break, we boarded our Third carriage at Drysdale to be entertained by Bill Barber, who at a young age, you can feel his passion and dedication to Blues music. Bill's performance, included inspiring and sometimes witty story telling which had everyone engaged.

Our fourth and final carriage consisted of a four piece band - Eddy Boyle Band.

Eddy Boyle harmonica player, singer, song writer and his band were really pumping out Blues Music loud and strong! The band looked like they were immersed in their performance, having a wonderful time, which that also relayed onto the crowd who were dancing in their seats, or on their feet on the dance floor. I was even dancing away in my seat - Yes it's true!

Our night concluded on a great buzz! I had high expectations, and was not in the least disappointed.
